  • This is the fifth direct route that the airline operates from Ecuador, thus expanding the connectivity offer to and from Quito and Guayaquil to the continent.

At 2:35 p.m. today, the first flight from Quito to San José took off, with which Avianca inaugurates a new non-stop route, offering passengers the opportunity to travel to one of the countries that arouses the most interest for tourism in Central America; while promoting Ecuador as a new alternative to visit among Costa Rican customers.

The airline will offer 3 weekly flights, which represents almost 3,000 monthly seats. “This route is the second non-stop route that we offer from Ecuador to Central America and is part of a commitment to diversify the destinations that Ecuadorians can reach. Costa Rica is undoubtedly a country that arouses interest in areas of nature, environmental care, beaches, and more,” said Ma. Beatriz González, Avianca's commercial manager for Ecuador.

For his part, Niels Olsen, Minister of Tourism, said that “the opening of the new Quito-San José’s route is evidence of our commitment to continue connecting Ecuadorians and promoting Ecuador in other international destinations. We are sure that this will contribute to the stimulation of tourism between brother countries, as well as trade, production and other different objectives where connectivity is key to place more Ecuador in the world and more world in Ecuador”.

“The new non-stop route from Quito to San José that is inaugurated today responds to the air transport reactivation plan promoted by the Government of the Meeting to promote tourist, cultural, productive and commercial activities in Ecuador. This connection will allow Ecuadorians to arrive directly, quickly and safely in Costa Rica,” said the Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, José Luis Aguilar.

The Costa Rican ambassador to Ecuador, Nury Solis, highlighted the importance of this route and the new opportunities that will foster cooperation and bilateral relations between Ecuador and Costa Rica. In addition, he expressed his expectation about the tourist and economic reactivation, through the promotion and cultural exchange between the two countries.

María Beatriz González also recalled that Avianca currently has an offer of 5 direct routes to and from Ecuador (Bogotá, Lima, San Salvador, New York and San José) and domestic connectivity to 6 destinations (Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Manta, San Cristóbal y Baltra), thus becoming one of the main operators in the country, which directly benefits the economy and tourism.
